Handfasting
The origins of the Handfasting ceremony are varied, but ultimately it was an ancient ritual where a couple would clasp their hands together, and have them bound by a decorative cord or a piece of clan tartan in the presence of family and friends. This ceremony would symbolise their commitment to each other, as they entered into a lasting union, hence the term 'tying the knot'.

Nowadays it can be incorporated into your wedding ceremony as a romantic and symbolic way of stating your commitment to each other. You can use a length of fabric or tartan of your choice, and you can choose to involve other family members, such as parents, or the weans.
